Tata Power Celebrates Electrical Safety Week in Mumbai

Tata Power along with the Ministry for Energy of Maharashtra inaugurated the ‘Electrical Safety Week’ in Mumbai. 

Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, has always considered the safety of its employees, consumers, and communities as its core priority. Tata Power has led the way in adopting and promoting safety measures, in and around its areas of operation as well as across all its business processes. In line with this commitment, Tata Power along with the Ministry for Energy of Maharashtra inaugurated the ‘Electrical Safety Week’ in Mumbai.

The Electrical Safety Week was inaugurated at a function at Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium in Mumbai by the Honorable Energy Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Chandrakant Bawankule along with Shri. Subhash Desai, Minister for Industries and Mining, Guardian Minister of Mumbai district along with eminent dignitaries from the power sector like Mr. Arvind Singh, Principal Secretary, Energy, Dr. Surendrakumar Bagde, General Manager, BEST, and Mr. Ashok Sethi, COO & ED Tata Power. The event also witnessed the launch of the Electrical Inspectorate website http://cei.maharashtra.gov.in/e_index.html and an electrical safety hand book.

With an aim of reducing Electrical Accidents and Safety Incidents, the initiatives highlighted during the week will be turned into Electrical Safety Drives that will be conducted throughout the year. The week long programme will educate citizens across Maharashtra on the importance of using ISI marked Electrical Equipments, importance of ELCB-Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers and Equipment Earthing, as well as avoiding overloading of Electric Circuits, to name a few.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ashok Sethi, COO and ED, said, “We are extremely happy to be an integral part of the Electrical Safety Week being organised by the Ministry of Energy. At Tata Power, we take this area of operation very seriously as demonstrated by the various initiatives that we organise throughout the year. From conducting Jan Jagruti Abhiyans across Mumbai to educate consumers on best electrical safety practices to organising rallies with Students of Tata Power Club Enerji on the subject, Tata Power will continue to lead the way in spreading the message of electrical safety across Mumbai and India. We are also very happy with our efforts to train electricians and electrical engineers at Tata Power Skill Development Institutes across India thereby bridging the safety and technical gap in the power sector.

At the event, the Ministry of Energy for Maharashtra appreciated Tata Power’s consistent efforts and active participation over the past three years in making the Electric Safety Drive a success. The Chief Electrical Inspector Office, Chembur, also appreciated the contributions made by Tata Power's Skill Development Institute at Shahad, for helping in building competencies of Skilled Workers and Engineers while also conducting on the job training facility for Electrical Contractors, and Electrical Engineers thereby bridging the skill gap required by the industry.

The commencement of the Electrical Safety Week will witness all Electrical utilities like Tata Power, R-Infra, BEST, MSEDCL, Electrical Contractor Association, and the Lift Contractor Association driving various Safety initiatives under the guidance of Chief Electrical Inspector Chembur.
