An official said that Egypt will be able to generate almost 10,000 megawatts (MW) or 10 GW of solar power in 2023 if some projects are completed.

According to Ayman Hamza, the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Egypt, plans have been drawn up to “intensify investment in the renewable energy industry” in order to increase the country’s share of clean sources of energy in the energy mix.

โ€œWe have set a target in our energy strategy to reach a renewable energy production level of 10,000 MW in 2023โ€ฆwe are certain we can attain that target considering that Egypt enjoys long sunny days and good wind velocity,โ€ Hamza said.ย

Hamza stated that such plans constitute building more renewable energy stations, green hydrogen, and ammonia plants for export.

He stated that there are plans for renewable energy in water desalination and irrigation, and added that this trend requires more investment.
