TIKA, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, opens solar-powered water wells in Ziguinchor, Senegal. The majority of 24 villages have 4 water wells that TIKA has drilled.

Boutoupa Camaracounda, a municipality in the Casamance area, is home to approximately 12,000 people in 24 villages. It was ravaged by civil war for 30 years. The poor access to water has had a negative effect on the living conditions of the villages.

To encourage the return to their villages of those who had been forced to flee the civil war and the mining of the land, four solar-powered water wells were drilled.

The wells have a depth of around 20-25 meters. This provided water access for the majority of the village residents.
