Oman has commenced the second round of auctions for land blocks dedicated to green hydrogen projects. The first round, which concluded in June 2023, resulted in five awards with a combined value of $30 billion.
In Round 2, Hydrom, the entity responsible for Oman’s green hydrogen initiatives, aims to grant up to three land blocks in the Dhofar region. The registration process for interested parties will begin shortly, with the Request for Qualification (RFQ) open for nearly two and a half months.
The Request for Proposal (RFP) is expected to be launched around September 2023. The second round is projected to conclude by the end of the first quarter of 2024.
Oman has already signed two commercial agreements with consortiums outside the auction process and plans to continue utilizing the auction system this year.
Hydrom is actively collaborating with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and consultants to develop the necessary infrastructure in Duqm and Salalah.
The focus is on identifying optimal routes and cost-effective solutions to enhance the competitiveness of green hydrogen and ammonia production in Oman.
These auction rounds form part of Phase A and are aligned with Hydrom’s target of achieving a total annual production of one million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030.
