Akuo inaugurated the Hamaha solar plant with storage on Mayotte Island. Built on a former landfill, the project, developed in collaboration with local authorities, repurposes the land for a 30-year decontamination period. The 1.2 MW plant, constructed by Sagemcom, will supply sustainable electricity to 1,700 residents, supporting Mayotte’s target of adding 60 MW by 2028.
Featuring Lithium-ion batteries, the plant’s storage mechanism stabilizes the grid by smoothing out solar production and injecting stored energy during peak demand, facilitating Mayotte’s transition to a more stable and renewable energy grid.
The batteries will contribute to the even distribution of solar production, storing 3.5 MWh (equivalent to the plant’s 3-hour electricity output). This stored energy is subsequently reintegrated into Mayotte Island’s power grid during peak demand in the evening, through collaboration with the grid operator EDM (Electricitรฉ de Mayotte).
