AFRY Selected For Environmental Impact Assessment of 500MW Solar PV Projects In Indonesia’s Proyek Hijaunesia 2023

PT PLN Indonesia Power has enlisted the services of AFRY to undertake Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) for five significant solar PV projects situated on Java Island. These projects mark a substantial stride in Indonesia’s pursuit of cleaner energy sources and align with the nation’s commitment to renewable energy transition.

As a crucial player in Indonesia’s electricity sector and a leading power generation company in Southeast Asia, PT PLN Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of the state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero), oversees more than 21 GW of power plants nationwide.

Under the Proyek Hijaunesia 2023 initiative, aimed at advancing the transition to renewable energy, PT PLN Indonesia Power has launched multiple projects, including solar and wind power ventures. AFRY, a renowned environmental consulting firm, has been selected to conduct ESIAs for five solar photovoltaic projects totalling 500MW on Java Island. These projects comprise three floating solar PV systems and two ground-mounted PV plants.

The ESIAs will be conducted in tandem with the regulatory Environmental Impact Assessment process (AMDAL) and will adhere to international standards, specifically the ADB Safeguards and IFC Performance Standards.

Edwin Nugraha Putra, CEO of PT PLN Indonesia Power, emphasized the significance of the Hijaunesia megaproject in reinforcing the commitment to renewable energy outlined in the 2021โ€“2030 Electricity Supply Business Plan. The focus is on achieving a green energy capacity of 7 GW.

Petteri Hรคrkki, AFRY’s Regional Director in Asia, expressed delight in the continued collaboration with PLN Indonesia Power and the trust placed in AFRY as the environmental consultant for these substantial solar PV projects. He highlighted the projects as a crucial step toward reducing dependence on fossil fuels and expediting the country’s transition to cleaner energy sources.
