ENGIE, a prominent low-carbon energy generation company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat during the 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit. This strategic collaboration aims to drive a comprehensive decarbonization program and foster the development of a renewable energy infrastructure in Gujarat, significantly contributing to the state’s clean energy transition plans.
The MoU outlines ambitious collaborative efforts, with a primary emphasis on the development of renewable energy projects. ENGIE commits to a greenfield development of 2.5 GW of renewable energy projects across various locations in Gujarat by 2030. This commitment is in addition to the ongoing development of a 400 MW solar project in Surendernagar.
Mr. Amit Jain, Country Manager, ENGIE India, expressed optimism about the cooperation, stating, “This strategic collaboration signifies our firm dedication to advancing sustainable energy solutions. Through this partnership with the Government of Gujarat, our goal is to play a significant role in advancing the state’s renewable energy sector and making substantial contributions to India’s overarching clean energy objectives.”
Commending the visionary leadership of Shri Bhupendra Patel, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, CM Patel acknowledged ENGIE’s notable contributions and underscored the state’s resolute commitment to renewable energy. Emphasizing the importance of green initiatives, CM Patel articulated a forward-looking vision, aiming for a substantial 2.5 GW capacity by 2030.
The MoU entails an investment of Rs 17,200 crore and the creation of 14,000 new jobs, reflecting ENGIE India’s commitment to contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
The signing ceremony of the MoU was attended by the Honโble Chief Minister of Gujarat, along with senior officials from the Government of Gujarat and ENGIE Group. Both parties view this strategic cooperation as a catalyst for advancing sustainable and clean energy initiatives, aligning seamlessly with India’s ambitious goals for the energy transition.
The collaboration extends beyond renewables, encompassing joint efforts in decarbonization initiatives, capacity building for Gas/LNG trading risk management, and exploring the potential centralization of ENGIE’s treasury activities in India at GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City).
