The partnership between ZeroAvia and ScottishPower aims to explore hydrogen infrastructure for airports, particularly in support of hydrogen-electric flight and other potential applications. ZeroAvia, a company with a longstanding partnership with AGS Airports, utilizes hydrogen-electric engines that produce electricity through fuel cells, emitting only water as a by-product. The company plans to commercialize these engines for aircraft by 2027.

ScottishPower, in line with its commitment to sustainability, is supporting ZeroAvia in this groundbreaking venture. The collaboration involves the development of green hydrogen solutions, using electrolysers powered by 100% renewable energy from ScottishPower’s UK-based wind farms. Together, the companies aim to contribute to the UK government’s target of achieving at least 6GW of electrolytic green hydrogen production by 2030.

Peter Jones, Director of ScottishPowerโ€™s Green Hydrogen business, highlighted the role of green hydrogen in decarbonizing heavy transport and expressed enthusiasm for supporting the aviation industry in delivering effective solutions.

ZeroAvia, having recently secured a 70-engine agreement with Ecojet and a partnership with AGS Airports, is a pioneer in hydrogen-electric flight innovation. Sergey Kiselev, Chief Business Officer at ZeroAvia, emphasized Scotland’s potential to lead in developing a clean hydrogen supply, especially with the support of leading energy companies like ScottishPower.
