The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES) has proudly announced the successful completion of 3.5 GW of renewable energy projects in 2023, showcasing an impressive growth rate of nearly 100% compared to the previous year.

Andrรฉs Gluski, AES President and Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the significance of this achievement, stating, “In 2023, AES completed the construction of 3.5 GW of new renewables. This construction milestone represents a new record and a growth rate of nearly 100% over 2022. Including these newly added projects, AES’ portfolio of renewables now reaches 18.4 GW.”

The completed projects include 1.6 GW of solar, 1.3 GW of wind, and 0.6 GW of energy storage. Notable examples of the completed projects in 2023 are:

  1. Great Cove Solar: A 220 MW project in Pennsylvania, consisting of two solar facilities commissioned in multiple phases. It is the largest solar project in the Commonwealth, with the University of Pennsylvania set to purchase all electricity produced. The project aligns with the University’s goal of achieving a 100% carbon-neutral campus by 2042 and will host a research study on soil health management.
  2. Chevelon Butte Wind: A 238 MW wind project, and Phase 1 of a 454 MW wind facility in Arizona. Once Phase 2 becomes operational, it will be the state’s largest wind farm, located on the historic Chevelon Butte Ranch. The project supports existing land uses, including livestock ranching and hunting.
  3. McFarland A Solar-plus-Storage: A 200 MW solar and 100 MW energy storage project in Arizona, representing one of the state’s largest solar-plus-storage initiatives. The facility contributes to a more secure and reliable electric grid while creating jobs during construction.
  4. Oak Ridge Solar: A 200 MW solar facility in Louisiana, the largest operating solar project in the state. The project provides low-cost electricity, reduces carbon emissions, and brings economic benefits to the local Morehouse Parish community.
