In a groundbreaking move towards sustainable energy practices, MahaMetro Rail Corporation has inked a significant Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Ampin Energy Transition, a prominent renewable energy company based in Delhi.
The collaboration entails the establishment of a 6 MWp solar power plant at Nagpur Metro’s premises, marking Ampin’s pioneering venture in the state. Under the terms of the 25-year PPA, Ampin will swiftly implement this initiative in two phases, deploying solar panels across metro stations and depots within 18 months, constituting the initial stretch of the metro rail route.
The energy generated by these solar panels will be supplied to MahaMetro at a competitive rate of โน4.15 per unit. This strategic partnership is anticipated to yield substantial economic benefits, with projected savings of up to 41% per unit. Additionally, the environmental impact is set to be profound, as the solar project is estimated to offset approximately 7000 metric tons of CO2 annually.
Ampin Energy Transition has successfully executed similar solar power projects with metro rail systems in the past, making this endeavor their third and first in the state. The MahaMetro spokesperson emphasized the pressing timeline for the solar panel installations, urging completion within the stipulated one and a half years for the initial phase.
This move underscores the commitment of both entities towards green energy adoption and aligns with the global push for sustainable transportation infrastructure.
