In a significant meeting, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi convened with Dimitrios Copelouzos, Chairman of the Greek Copelouzos Group, accompanied by Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mohamed Shaker, and other high-ranking company executives.

According to Presidential Spokesman Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, the President received an update on the progress of the “GREGY Project,” focusing on power interconnection with Europe. Notably, the project has been successfully incorporated into the initial list of projects of common interest in the European Union. This accomplishment sets the stage for the next phase, involving the preparation of final technical and environmental studies, as well as the study to determine the marine connection cables’ path.

The Copelouzos Group presented its plans for renewable energy production in Egypt, specifically outlining efforts to collaborate on a substantial 9.5-gigawatt wind and solar power production project. This initiative is poised to significantly bolster the Egyptian economy and play a crucial role in advancing clean energy transitions in both Egypt and Europe.

President El-Sisi provided directives to accelerate cooperation efforts between Egypt and the Copelouzos Group, emphasizing the importance of expediting proposed projects. The President reiterated Egypt’s commitment to playing a leading role in the global shift to clean energy, citing economic and environmental benefits for the nation.

Commending the persistent cooperation between Egypt and Greece across various sectors, President El-Sisi highlighted the robust relations between the two countries. The collaborative efforts discussed during the meeting reflect a shared commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions and fostering strong ties between Egypt and the Copelouzos Group.
