In a significant development for India’s power and aluminum sectors, NTPC Limited, the country’s largest integrated power utility, has entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a prominent Navaratna Company engaged in aluminum production. The MoU aims to explore various avenues, including coal-based thermal, solar PV, wind, and other renewable energy sources, as well as energy storage solutions, or a combination thereof. The objective is to provide approximately 1200 MW or more of uninterrupted, round-the-clock power to support NALCO’s expansion plans for its smelter plant capacity in Angul, Odisha.

The signing ceremony, held at the SCOPE Complex in New Delhi, saw the presence of key officials including Shri Dillip Kumar Patel, Director (HR) of NTPC, and Shri Jagdish Arora, Director (Project & Technical) of NALCO. This strategic collaboration underscores the commitment of both entities to harnessing diverse energy solutions to meet the evolving needs of India’s industrial landscape.
