Enviromena has secured a contract to upgrade three major solar farms in the UK ahead of the peak generation months this summer.
The solar farms—Halse Solar Farm in Taunton, Horsacott Solar Farm in Barnstaple, and Jordanston Solar Farm in Tenby—are all accredited by the government for subsidies and have a combined capacity of approximately 20MWp. Despite being operational for over a decade, they have encountered significant performance and availability issues over time.
Enviromena’s internal Design and Optimization team conducted a detailed review of the performance data from the sites and performed comprehensive site surveys to propose a scope of works for each project. The focus was on ensuring a future-proof, easily maintainable system. The planned upgrades will restore all three sites to 100% availability, including the installation of upgraded inverters, full replacement of DC cabling, and enhancements to the electrical infrastructure. These improvements not only enhance the reliability and safety of the sites but also increase the amount of clean energy exported to the grid.
Gary Saunders, Technical Director at Enviromena, emphasized the importance of repowering projects in restoring solar farms to their maximum performance and increasing asset value and lifespan. He highlighted that failed DC cabling, outdated inverters, and other aging components contribute to performance reductions over time.
Enviromena’s experienced team covers planning, design, grid, construction, and operations and maintenance (O&M), ensuring comprehensive support for asset owners throughout the repowering process.
With a growing team and management of over 250 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy assets in the UK and Italy, Enviromena remains committed to delivering safe, affordable, and reliable clean energy solutions across the UK and Europe, driving the transition to a world powered by clean energy
