Novelis Inc., a leading provider of sustainable aluminum solutions and a global leader in aluminum rolling and recycling, is pleased to announce the signing of a green Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Statkraft, Europe’s largest renewable energy producer. This agreement will cover a significant portion of the electricity needs of two major Novelis manufacturing plants in Germany: Nachterstedt Recycling and Nachterstedt Rolling, amounting to approximately 40% of their electricity consumption. This represents around 16% of Novelis’ total electricity consumption in Germany.

The PPA, spanning 10 years, will supply Novelis with renewable electricity equivalent to approximately 58 gigawatt-hours (GWh) annually, sourced entirely from German wind and solar installations. Commencing delivery on March 1, 2024, this initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions from Novelis’ electricity usage by over 17,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent per year, totaling 170,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent over the duration of the agreement. This step aligns with Novelis’ commitment to reducing its carbon footprint by 30% by 2026 compared to a fiscal year 2016 baseline, with the ultimate goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 or earlier.

We are proud to partner with Statkraft, a renowned and experienced supplier, in customizing a green PPA tailored to the specific needs of our local plants.”
