Plaksha University Launches Indorama Ventures Center for Clean Energy: Pioneering Research Hub Driving India’s Transition to Sustainable Energy

Plaksha University, a pioneering institution revolutionizing technology education and research in India, has unveiled the inauguration of the Indorama Ventures Center for Clean Energy. Representing one of the initial research hubs at Plaksha University, this center is dedicated to spearheading a transition towards clean energy through advanced education and research initiatives.

The primary mission of the Indorama Ventures Center for Clean Energy is to propel India towards a net-zero carbon future, fostering self-reliance and energy security. With a focus on reducing carbon emissions globally, the center is committed to conducting research, forging partnerships with industry and government entities, and promoting public awareness campaigns centered around clean energy. Presently, the center’s research efforts are concentrated in three key areas: Smart Homes, District Cooling with thermal storage, and Urban Heat Island (UHI) mitigation.

Professor Rudra Pratap, Founding Vice Chancellor of Plaksha University, emphasized the institution’s dedication to addressing societal challenges through research. He highlighted the center’s commitment to enhancing energy efficiency, decarbonizing the energy sector, and driving innovations for renewable energy utilization. Collaboration with industry partners is deemed essential for translating research outcomes into tangible societal benefits.

Professor Vishal Garg, Director of the Indorama Ventures Center for Clean Energy, underscored the center’s vision of shaping India’s energy landscape towards decarbonization and grid security. Emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, he stressed the need for research to not only focus on technological advancements but also on economic viability, cultural relevance, and supportive policy frameworks.

Mrs. Suchitra Lohia, Board Member and Deputy Group CEO of Indorama Ventures, expressed the company’s alignment with the center’s noble cause of sustainability. Highlighting the imperative nature of clean energy for businesses, industries, and governments, she emphasized the win-win opportunity presented by the transition to clean energy.

The center aims to leverage the convergence of energy and digitalization to facilitate scalable, sustainable, and cost-effective deployment of energy solutions while nurturing industry-relevant professionals and entrepreneurs. Preceding the center’s launch, Plaksha University organized two impactful events, including a panel discussion on “Towards a JUST Energy Transition for All” and a roundtable discussion on “Decarbonization of the Indian Energy Sector.” These gatherings, attended by leaders from various sectors, underscored the urgent need for focused research and collaborative efforts in advancing clean energy initiatives.
