The Ministry of Mines and Energy of Colombia has announced the commencement of commercial operations for the Planeta Rica Solar Park project, located in the department of Córdoba. With a capacity of 19.9 MW, this venture represents a collaboration between MPC Energy Solutions (MPCES) and Akuo Energy, signaling a notable advancement in Colombia’s renewable energy landscape.

The Planeta Rica Solar Park project is a joint endeavor between MPC Energy Solutions (MPCES), an Independent Power Producer (IPP) predominantly owned by German MPC Capital, and Akuo Energy, a French renewable energy developer. Each party holds a 50% stake in the project, demonstrating a commitment to fostering sustainable energy solutions.

Constructed by the international engineering and construction group Mota-Egil, the solar park received financial support from Bancolombia through a dedicated financing line. Under a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the electricity generated by the Planeta Rica Solar Park will be sold to energy company Celsia.

The successful commissioning of the Planeta Rica Solar Park underscores Colombia’s efforts to expand its renewable energy capacity and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The collaborative efforts between MPC Energy Solutions, Akuo Energy, and other stakeholders reflect a shared commitment to advancing sustainable energy initiatives in the region.
