Today, the Chilean Ministry of Energy unveiled the Green Hydrogen Action Plan 2023-2030, comprising 81 actions aimed at propelling the development of the green hydrogen industry and its derivatives. The plan, outlined in a statement, follows a year of collaborative efforts and involvement from a Transversal Strategic Committee.

The action plan delineates two distinct stages for implementation. The first, spanning from 2023 to 2026, focuses on laying the groundwork for industry development by defining environmental, social, and labor standards, streamlining permit processes, fostering scientific research, and advancing tax and financial incentives.

The second stage, from 2026 to 2030, aims to consolidate territorial planning instruments, regulations, local development initiatives, citizen participation frameworks, and human capital preparation to support green hydrogen development.

According to the document, by 2050, Chile’s energy consumption landscape is projected to undergo significant transformation. Notably, there will be a substantial reduction in fossil fuel consumption, primarily driven by increased electrification, expected to rise from 22% to a range between 42% and 46% by 2050. Additionally, green hydrogen and its derivatives are anticipated to contribute between 16% and 17% of the national energy consumption by 2050, depending on the scenario.
