Cypress Creek Renewables, a prominent solar and storage developer, has announced the successful completion and commencement of commercial operations at its newest and largest hybrid facility, Zier, situated in Brackettville, Texas. This marks a significant addition to Texas’ energy grid, providing clean and reliable power to meet the state’s growing demand.
With a capacity of 208MW of photovoltaic energy and 80MWh of battery storage, the Zier Solar + Storage site is poised to supply enough energy annually to power 41,600 homes. The facility’s battery storage has already proven instrumental in supporting ERCOT’s grid during periods of increased demand, demonstrating its reliability and importance in ensuring grid stability.
Sarah Slusser, CEO of Cypress Creek Renewables, emphasized the critical role of clean and reliable power in supporting Texas’ continued growth. The project’s commercial operation was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting event attended by various stakeholders, underscoring the significance of partnerships in advancing renewable energy initiatives.
Judd Messer, Texas Vice President of Advanced Power Alliance, highlighted the importance of renewable energy, particularly solar, in meeting Texas’ energy needs, while Alex Darden of EQT Partners praised the Zier Hybrid Solar Site for its contribution to Texas’ expanding power demands.
Financing for the project was facilitated by partners including the North American Development Bank (NADBank), reflecting a collaborative effort to advance sustainable energy infrastructure. Cypress Creek Renewables, with a substantial portfolio of projects across Texas, continues to play a pivotal role in the state’s transition towards renewable energy sources.
The completion of the Zier Solar + Storage facility represents a significant milestone in Texas’ renewable energy journey, contributing to the state’s goals of reliability, affordability, and sustainability in its energy sector.
