The Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, HE Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, engaged in constructive discussions with Austrian counterparts during a significant meeting in Vienna. The meeting, attended by HE Karl Nehammer, Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, and other high-ranking officials, aimed to strengthen collaboration in various sectors, including renewable energy and advanced technology.

Dr. Al Jaber conveyed the UAE leadership’s eagerness to enhance cooperation with Austria, emphasizing the longstanding and robust bilateral relations spanning over five decades. He highlighted the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership announced in 2021 as a significant milestone and stressed the importance of expanding existing ties through new collaborations that yield sustainable economic benefits for both nations.

The meeting also acknowledged Austria’s active participation in COP28, where it pledged increased contributions to the Green Climate Fund and announced ambitious initiatives to boost renewable energy production and enhance energy efficiency by 2030.

During the visit, Dr. Al Jaber chaired the first ministerial meeting of the UAE-Austria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which discussed various aspects of bilateral relations, including political, economic, and technological cooperation. The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening diplomatic efforts, fostering economic partnerships, and promoting joint investments, particularly in priority sectors such as energy and climate action.

Both sides applauded the outcomes of the UAE-Austria Joint Economic Committee meeting held in Dubai in December 2023 and celebrated the signing of agreements to promote cooperation in various fields, including artificial intelligence.

The visit also marked the golden jubilee of diplomatic relations between the two countries, with discussions focusing on enhancing joint efforts to achieve shared aspirations for development and prosperity.

Furthermore, the partnership between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and OMV was celebrated, highlighting nearly three decades of successful cooperation in the energy and chemicals sectors. This partnership has contributed significantly to enhancing energy security and exploring opportunities in clean and renewable energy, including hydrogen.

The UAE’s substantial investments in Austria and the growth of bilateral trade were also emphasized, underscoring the countries’ strong economic ties and mutual commitment to further enhancing their strategic partnership.
