Greenko ZeroC, the green ammonia production division of India’s AM Green, has finalized a significant agreement with Norwayโs Yara Clean Ammonia, the leading global ammonia distributor, to supply renewable ammonia. This partnership is anchored in a term sheet that commits Greenko to deliver up to 50% of the renewable ammonia produced during the initial phase of its new facility in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The project is an ambitious undertaking by AM Green, with plans to start by producing 1 million tonnes of green ammonia annually, scaling up to 5 million tonnes by 2030.
The collaboration will see Yara Clean Ammonia utilizing the green ammonia supplied by Greenko ZeroC for the production of low-emission fertilizers and in efforts to lower carbon emissions in sectors such as shipping and power generation. The Kakinada facility is expected to commence exports of renewable ammonia by 2027, in compliance with the European Unionโs renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) standards.
Hans Olav Raen, CEO of Yara Clean Ammonia, highlighted that this deal will significantly bolster Yaraโs portfolio of renewable energy resources. Yara operates the largest global network in the ammonia sector, which includes 15 shipping vessels and 18 ammonia terminals worldwide.
AM Green, established by Anil Chalamalasetty and Mahesh Kolli of the Greenko Group, is positioning itself as a leader in the clean energy sector by expanding its production capabilities to include not only green ammonia but also green hydrogen, biofuels, sustainable aviation fuels, and other key chemicals aimed at global decarbonization.
