Second Net Zero Producers Forum Meeting

The Net-Zero Producers Forum recently concluded its second Ministerial Meeting in Riyadh, uniting ministers from six participating countries: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, the US, Norway, and Canada, spanning three continents.

The meeting focused on accelerating just energy transitions and achieving net-zero emissions while supporting sustainable development and energy security. Ministers discussed the outcomes of the 28th UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai and endorsed global efforts such as the Global Methane Pledge and the Zero Routine Flaring initiative (ZRF). They emphasized the critical role of carbon management and methane emissions abatement in tackling climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Ministers praised the Working Group on Deployable Methane Technologies for its development of the Upstream Methane Emissions Abatement Toolbox, launched at COP28, and expressed anticipation for the toolboxโ€™s continued growth.

In a show of ongoing innovation and collaboration, ministers introduced a new Working Group on Carbon Utilization and Storage. This group aims to advance technologies for the utilization and storage of carbon dioxide, supporting emission reductions and creating value-added products, contributing to a sustainable and circular carbon economy. They also acknowledged the importance of non-combustion uses of hydrocarbons in energy transitions and achieving net-zero goals.
