Spanish energy company Ignis, headquartered in Madrid, has announced that the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines has granted it authorization to conduct feasibility studies for transmission lines connecting three future renewable energy plants with the Interconnected Electrical System National (SEIN).

According to a statement, each study will span a concession period of 24 months and will focus on the infrastructure required to link two solar plants in the Arequipa department and a wind plant in Lambayeque to the SEIN.

This authorization follows Ignis’s announcement in February regarding its plan to develop six renewable energy projects in Peru, four in the north and two in the south of the territory, between 2025 and 2028. The total investment for these projects is estimated to exceed one billion dollars.

Among these projects, four will be wind farms, operational by 2028, injecting a combined total of 1,469 MW into the SEIN. The remaining two projects, PV Alba and PV Blanca, are photovoltaic and are the focus of the current announcement. Each will have a capacity of 200 MW, with construction scheduled to commence in 2025.

Ignis submitted the project documents for both initiatives to the National Environmental Certification Service for Sustainable Investments (Senace) in January. The Alba photovoltaic solar plant, and its connection to the SEIN, was presented through Empresa de Generaciรณn Elรฉctrica Alba, requiring an investment of $159 million. Similarly, Empresa de Generaciรณn Elรฉctrica Blanca plans to construct the Blanca photovoltaic solar plant and its connection to the SEIN, with a similar investment of $159 million. This project also includes the construction of the CSF Blanca electrical substation, expansion of the San Josรฉ electrical substation, and the construction of a 220 kV transmission line spanning approximately 23.22 km.

Ignis asserts its presence in Peru since 2021, citing the development of over 150 projects in Spain, both proprietary and third-party, and a global presence across Europe, America, and Asia. The company collaborates with local partners in these regions and boasts a portfolio exceeding 10 GW.
