ACCIONA Energía has commenced operations at the Red-Tailed Hawk photovoltaic plant, situated near Houston in Wharton County, Texas. With a capacity of 458MWp, it stands as the company’s largest solar complex built to date, solidifying its position as a key player in the United States’ energy transition.

The inauguration of the Red-Tailed Hawk plant adds to ACCIONA Energía’s existing portfolio of renewable energy projects in North America, which now totals 2.7GW installed capacity. Additionally, the company is actively involved in the construction of a 280MW wind farm in Forty Mile County, Alberta, Canada, and Union Solar, a 325MWp photovoltaic plant in Ohio, United States.

Equipped with solar panels affixed to solar trackers, the Red-Tailed Hawk facility maximizes sunlight exposure and production efficiency. It is projected to generate 742GWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to powering approximately 66,500 Texas households, while simultaneously preventing the emission of approximately 430,000 tons of CO2 per year.

In line with ACCIONA Energía’s commitment to social responsibility, the Red-Tailed Hawk project falls under the company’s Social Impact Management program. This initiative reallocates a portion of the plant’s annual revenue to support local community initiatives focused on education, wellness, and environmental stewardship.
