In a bid to bolster electricity access across Nigeria’s rural areas, the Federal Government has designated funds within the 2024 Appropriation Act for electrification projects. To facilitate this initiative, the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is calling upon seasoned Nigerian contractors to participate by submitting tenders and prequalification documents as mandated by the Public Procurement Act 2007.
These electrification endeavors encompass a diverse array of tasks, including the procurement and installation of transformers, solar mini-grids, and solar streetlights within various communities. The projects are delineated into three principal categories: Grid Extension, Solar Mini Grid/Solar Home System, and Solar Street Light.
Grid Extension (Category A)
Under this category, numerous projects are slated for execution, ranging from the electrification of specific locales to the enhancement of grid networks and the deployment of solar solutions across both Northern and Southern regions. Some highlighted projects include:
- Electrification of Dadin Kowa, Gombe State.
- Provision and installation of 300KVA transformers in selected communities across Rivers, Lagos, Delta, and Enugu States.
- Completion of rural electrification projects in various locations within Ekiti, Kwara, and Osun States.
- Extension of electricity to communities in Sokoto, Ogun, and Osun States.
- Conversion of 11KVA to 33KVA grid in multiple areas.
Solar Mini Grid/Solar Home System (Category B)
This category focuses on deploying renewable energy solutions, such as solar mini-grids and home systems, to enhance electricity access in specific regions. Notable projects include:
- Deployment of renewable energy in Egoro-Ikhidim-Amedo, Edo State.
- Provision and installation of solar mini-grids at healthcare facilities in Sokoto and Niger States.
- Supply and installation of solar home systems in communities within Niger State.
Solar Street Light (Category C)
Efforts to improve public lighting and enhance security through solar streetlights are the primary objectives of this category. Key projects comprise:
- Provision of solar street lights for underserved communities in Ekiti, Kebbi, Lagos, and Ondo States.
- Installation of solar lights in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps nationwide.
- Supply and installation of solar-powered streetlights in various communities across Kwara, Jigawa, and Nassarawa States.
The Federal Government’s endeavor to expand electricity access in rural areas underscores its commitment to socio-economic development and improved livelihoods across Nigeria. Through collaboration with competent contractors, these electrification projects aim to bring about tangible improvements in energy infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for communities nationwide. Interested contractors are encouraged to engage with the Rural Electrification Agency to contribute to this transformative initiative.
