Ceuta has inaugurated a new 3 MW photovoltaic plant on the land of the Port Authority, marking it as the largest solar installation for a European port and the first of its kind in the autonomous city. The project, developed by Avangreen Energy Solutions, comprises 4,400 photovoltaic panels with a generation capacity sufficient to supply energy to 3,000 homes.

Manuel Gรณmez, CEO of Avangreen, highlighted the significance of the project, stating, โ€œCeuta was the only region in Spain with zero penetration of renewables.โ€ He added that the plant will provide clean energy not only for the port’s land and maritime operations but also for a data center currently under construction, which is expected to be operational by the end of this year.

Gรณmez also emphasized that the facility is designed to withstand the harsh conditions of the marine environment, particularly salinity, ensuring its durability and efficiency.
