Jordan took the helm at the annual meeting of the Energy Platform, held as part of the Green Week of the Mediterranean in Istanbul, Turkey. Engineer Amani Al-Azzam, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, represented Jordan during this significant gathering, marking a pivotal moment for collaboration among the forty-three member states of the Union for the Mediterranean.

Al-Azzam emphasized the importance of this year’s meeting being integrated into the Green Week of the Mediterranean, providing an enhanced platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and partnership building in the realms of energy, environment, and climate change. The session aimed to evaluate the progress made since the ministerial declaration of June 2021 and strategize future actions to overcome existing challenges and promote economic and social advancement across the region.

Highlighting the global shift towards energy transition, Al-Azzam underscored the need for partnerships at national and international levels to address climate and environmental challenges. Jordan’s substantial progress in renewable energy, with solar and wind projects contributing over a quarter of electricity generation, positioned the country as a regional leader in renewable energy adoption.

As a contributing member to the joint presidency, Jordan remains dedicated to fostering collaboration and enhancing opportunities for cooperation among Mediterranean countries.
