In a significant development towards fostering sustainable energy solutions and advancing India’s green future, JSW Energy, a leading player in the energy sector, has announced major strides in its transformation into an ‘Energy Products and Services’ company.

The company is set to revolutionize the energy landscape with the initiation of India’s largest commercial-scale green hydrogen project, a groundbreaking endeavor aimed at producing green steel. This ambitious project marks a significant milestone in India’s journey towards clean energy.

JSW Energy has also embarked on the construction of its Battery Energy Storage Project (BESS), signaling its entry into energy storage services. This move is expected to bolster grid stability and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources.

Noteworthy achievements in the green hydrogen domain include the signing of a seven-year supply agreement with JSW Steel Ltd for 3,800 tons per annum, along with green oxygen. With detailed engineering work completed, commissioning is anticipated in Q4 FY25. Additionally, under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) program by SECI, JSW Energy has been allotted a capacity of 6,800 TPA.

Collaborative efforts with JSW Steel Ltd are set to further elevate JSW Energy’s green hydrogen endeavors, with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked to supply an additional 85,000 to 90,000 TPA of green hydrogen and 720,000 TPA of green oxygen by 2030.

Simultaneously, the company has commenced construction on the 1.0 GWh BESS project, awarded by SECI, with commissioning slated for June 2025. This project, comprising two installations with a 500 MWh storage capacity each, is designed to enhance grid stability and support renewable energy integration.

Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s transformative journey, stating, “JSW Energy is making significant strides in becoming an energy products and services company. Our green hydrogen project not only underscores our commitment to reducing carbon emissions but also positions us at the forefront of industrial decarbonization by leveraging sustainable energy solutions.”

JSW Energy’s total locked-in generation capacity currently stands at 13.3 GW, with plans to reach 20 GW by 2030. Additionally, the company aims to achieve 40 GWh of energy storage capacity before the same year. With an ambitious target of Carbon Neutrality by 2050, JSW Energy continues to lead the charge towards a sustainable energy future.
