In a landmark initiative spearheaded by His Royal Highness, Prince AbdulAziz bin Salman bin AbdulAziz Al Saud, Saudi Arabia has launched a pioneering Geographic Survey Project for Renewable Energy sites. This ambitious endeavor, part of the National Renewable Energy Program, involves the installation of 1,200 stations across the Kingdom to assess solar and wind energy potential over 850,000 square kilometers. The scale of this project is unprecedented globally, covering regions equivalent to the combined areas of major European nations like the UK and France or Germany and Spain.
HRH the Minister of Energy emphasized that the project aims to identify optimal sites for future renewable energy projects, leveraging advanced technologies to collect data on solar irradiance, wind speeds, and atmospheric conditions. This comprehensive data, continuously monitored and analyzed through a dedicated Ministry platform, will support swift project development and financing, reducing current data acquisition times from 18 to 24 months to immediate feasibility assessments.
Highlighting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to sustainable energy goals, HRH Prince AbdulAziz bin Salman outlined targets to integrate renewable sources into the energy mix, aiming for 50% by 2030. The initiative also aligns with broader national strategies to enhance energy efficiency, reduce reliance on liquid fuels, and foster clean hydrogen production.
The Minister expressed gratitude to King Salman bin AbdulAziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin AbdulAziz Al Saud for their unwavering support, underscoring their pivotal roles in advancing the Kingdom’s “Vision 2030” agenda towards a diversified and sustainable energy future.
