Egypt And UN Strengthen Renewable Energy Initiatives: NISGP Meeting Highlights Collaborative Efforts

In a pivotal meeting held in the Administrative Capital, the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects (NISGP) reinforced its cooperation with the United Nations in Egypt. Chaired by Ambassador Hisham Badr, Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development for Strategic Partnerships and National Coordinator of NISGP, alongside Ms. Elena Panova, UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt, the event highlighted ongoing efforts to foster sustainable development through innovative green initiatives.

Ambassador Badr underscored the unwavering commitment of H.E. Dr. Hala El Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, in strengthening the strategic partnership between NISGP and the UN. Emphasizing the global imperative to tackle climate change, Ambassador Badr highlighted Egypt’s proactive stance under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi.

The meeting showcased presentations from previous NISGP winners, spotlighting advancements in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and environmental stewardship. UN agency representatives pledged continued support to expand the initiative’s impact globally, aiming to empower local communities and achieve sustainable development goals.

Recognizing the pivotal contributions of UNDP and other UN entities, the initiativeโ€™s National Coordinator hailed NISGP as a model recognized by international bodies, including the League of Arab States, poised for replication in other countries.

Echoing Ambassador Badr’s sentiments, Ms. Elena Panova highlighted Egypt’s strides in sustainable development, attributing success to community-driven solutions and local engagement. She affirmed the UN’s steadfast support for Egypt’s climate initiatives, underlining the role of inclusive collaboration across sectors to achieve effective climate solutions.

The event featured presentations by the 18 winning projects from NISGPโ€™s second round, showcasing innovative approaches across diverse sectors aimed at sustainability.

UN agencies, including UNDP, WFP, UN Women, UNIDO, FAO, UN-Habitat, ILO, IOM, and UNESCO, reiterated their commitment to supporting Egypt’s green projects. They pledged technical expertise, funding, and strategic partnerships to amplify project impact and scalability.
