The Port Authority of Ferrol-San Cibrao has formally requested the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda to grant a concession for the implementation of a groundbreaking renewable energy project at the outer port of Ferrol. This initiative marks the first of its kind for the port and involves the installation of a photovoltaic plant by Ciudad Real-based company PWR Capital Energy.
The photovoltaic installation, which is part of the Green Energy Lighthouse project, will have a capacity of 20.02 MW and will supply the port community in a self-consumption format. The project is set to be located on the slope of the mountain bordering the outer port, covering a total area of 153,300 square meters.
The plant will feature 36,400 modules installed in various sections on the slope and its summit. The slope phase will span an area of 83,209 square meters, generating 13.31 MW, while the upper zone will cover 70,077 square meters with a capacity of 6.7 MW.
Construction of the plant is estimated to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with PWR Capital Energy spearheading the project. The Green Energy Lighthouse initiative will require an investment of more than 50 million euros.
This ambitious project underscores the commitment of the Port Authority of Ferrol-San Cibrao to advancing sustainable energy solutions and sets a significant precedent for renewable energy adoption in port operations.
