PT PLN (Persero) achieved significant electricity sales in the first semester of 2024, recording 149.11 Terawatt Hours (TWh), a notable 7.54% increase from the same period in 2023. This growth, equating to an additional 10.45 TWh, was driven by increased consumption in both the business and household sectors, with respective growth rates of 10.54% and 8.75%.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo highlighted the company’s strategic efforts to boost electricity sales. “Through the heroic struggle of all PLN employees, positive performance can continue to be improved. PLN has successfully changed the way it views business by creating new electricity demand and maintaining customer satisfaction,” he stated.

To achieve this, PLN accelerated the connection of Medium Voltage (TM) customers, promoted Electrifying Agriculture and Electrifying Lifestyle programs, improved the convenience of adding power through marketing thematic products and events, and implemented a captive power acquisition program.

Electricity sales in the business sector grew by 10.54%, or 2.87 TWh, compared to the same period in 2023. This growth was supported by the presence of data center clusters, the tourism sector, and various international events hosted in Indonesia. “Various national and international events supported by PLN have also contributed to increasing electricity sales in the business sector,” Darmawan added.

The household sector also saw significant growth, with sales reaching 64.42 TWh by June 2024. This represents an increase of 5.25 TWh, or 8.87% year-on-year (YoY). Darmawan noted, “Electricity is a primary need for the Indonesian people. The growth in electricity consumption in the household sector is a good sign of people’s interest in switching to a lifestyle using electricity-based equipment. One of the drivers of sales in June 2024 was the increase in the power delta from the promo program launched since the beginning of the year as a sales booster.”

Meanwhile, the industrial sector recorded a growth of 4.20%, with the Mining Cluster being the largest contributor, consuming 435 Gigawatt Hours (GWh). Darmawan emphasized, “We are very aware that electricity is an important need for the industrial sector. With the availability of sufficient supply and supported by reliable electricity, we are ready to support industrial growth.”

With electricity sales to 90.8 million customers, PLN’s revenue for the first semester of 2024 reached IDR 254.60 trillion, marking an 8.39% increase from the previous year. Darmawan concluded, “As the backbone of Indonesia’s electricity sector, PLN continues to be committed to improving electricity services and encouraging its use as a driving force for the economy of the people in the country.”
