French energy giant TotalEnergies has awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for its 1GW photovoltaic (PV) project in Ratawi, Iraq, to China Energy Engineering International Group. The project is a significant component of TotalEnergies’ $27 billion energy program in Iraq.
The project will be executed by China Energy Engineering Tianjin Electric Power Construction, International Group, and Southwest Institute, with construction set to begin later this year. The project is slated for completion by early 2027. The scope of work includes the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the PV power station and a 132 kV booster station.
The solar PV independent power project (IPP) is one of the key elements of the $27 billion deal between TotalEnergies and the Iraqi government. The other major projects within the agreement include a facility for treating associated natural gas from five southern oil fieldsโWest Qurna 2, Majnoon, Artawi (Ratawi), Tuba, and Luhaisโa $4 billion common seawater supply project, and the development of the Artawi oil field.
This EPC contract award follows extensive discussions between TotalEnergies and multiple EPC contractors as the company advances its ambitious energy projects in Iraq.
