MNRE Establishes Task Force To Advance Geothermal Energy In India

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has established a Task Force dedicated to advancing geothermal energy in India. This initiative aims to explore and develop the potential of geothermal resources as a sustainable energy solution for the country. Dr. A.K. Tripathi, an Advisor at MNRE, will lead the Task Force, which is tasked with reviewing the draft of the โ€œIndian Geothermal Energy Development Framework.โ€

The Task Force will evaluate the global status of geothermal technologies and their applications to understand current best practices and advancements. This review will help shape strategic recommendations for harnessing geothermal energy in India effectively. The focus will be on identifying viable technologies and developing a comprehensive framework to support the growth of the geothermal sector.

Additionally, the Task Force is authorized to consult with industry experts and stakeholders as needed to gather diverse insights and expertise. This collaborative approach ensures that the development framework will be well-informed and practical. The formation of this Task Force has received approval from the Minister of New and Renewable Energy, reflecting the governmentโ€™s commitment to expanding renewable energy sources and enhancing energy security in India. The Task Forceโ€™s work is expected to play a crucial role in advancing geothermal energy projects and contributing to India’s renewable energy goals.
