Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company JSC (KEGOC) is set to enhance the country’s energy security and grid resilience with a new high-voltage transmission line project, financed by a €297 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The project will involve the construction of a 604-kilometer-long 500kV overhead transmission line between Ulke and Karabatan in Western Kazakhstan, along with the development of associated infrastructure, including a 500kV substation in Karabatan and an expansion of switchyards. This initiative will integrate the currently isolated West Power Zone into Kazakhstan’s Unified Power System, improving energy supply reliability and supporting the integration of renewable energy.

KEGOC, Kazakhstan’s national transmission operator, will oversee the construction and operation of the project, which aims to reduce power transmission losses and strengthen the country’s resilience against climate change.
