Invenergy, the leading privately held developer, owner, and operator of sustainable energy solutions, today announced a landmark virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) between Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (Honda) and Rusutsu Wind for 63-megawatts (MW) of clean energy. The power generated from the Rusutsu Wind Energy Center in the Hokkaido prefecture will offset 64,000 tons of carbon emissions annually. This agreement represents the largest corporate VPPA in the region.
The Rusutsu VPPA follows Invenergyโ€™s 200-MW offtake agreement with a group company of Honda in North America at a phase of the Samson Solar Energy Center in the United States โ€“ which will be one of the largest solar energy centers in the western hemisphere when completed. โ€œInvenergy is dedicated to solving energy challenges for our customers and weโ€™re proud to be partnering with an iconic company like Honda again to help them meet their clean energy goalsโ€ commented Masa Oya, SVP and Head of Japan at Invenergy. “By leveraging our global expertise, Invenergy continues to deliver clean energy solutions that meet the rapidly increasing needs of our diverse customers and communities across Japan, the region, and around the world.โ€
