In a major stride towards sustainability, Mondelez Egypt has announced the transition of its chocolate and biscuit factories in Tenth of Ramadan to be powered entirely by renewable energy. The move is part of the companyโ€™s broader commitment to achieving zero emissions, marking a pivotal shift from traditional electricity sources to green energy such as wind and solar. This initiative is being implemented in partnership with Egypt’s New and Renewable Energy Authority.

The transition supports Egypt’s Vision 2030, aiming to promote environmental sustainability and foster a green economy. Mondelez Egypt will source its renewable energy from five government-owned power plants, including the Gebel El Zeit and Zafarana wind farms, the Zafarana and Kom Ombo solar plants, and the Hurghada wind farm. This collaboration highlights the company’s focus on maximizing renewable energy potential within the region.

Mohamed Elmorsi, Chairman and Managing Director of Mondelez Egypt, emphasized the significance of this step, stating, “This partnership represents a critical milestone in our journey to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across our value chain by 2050. It also aligns with Egyptโ€™s climate strategy for 2050 and supports the countryโ€™s Vision 2030.” He added that the use of renewable energy would not only reduce the company’s carbon footprint but also contribute to the resilience of local economies.
