On World Energy Day 2024, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), highlighted the UAE’s commitment to sustainable energy initiatives. He reaffirmed the alignment of the UAEโ€™s vision with the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Al Tayer emphasized the need for a strategic balance between sustainable economic growth, environmental protection, and energy security. He stated that these pillars form the foundation of the UAE’s present and future, particularly concerning increasing the share of clean energy in the national energy mix. This commitment aligns with several national strategies, including the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to achieve 100% of energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.

Notable initiatives include the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, recognized as the world’s largest single-site solar park developed through the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, with a planned production capacity exceeding 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030. Additionally, the Green Hydrogen project, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa, and the 250 MW pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Hatta were mentioned as milestone projects crucial for achieving net zero by 2050.
