ENGIE North America has finalized a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Google to provide 90 MW of renewable energy from its Chillingham solar project in Bell County, Texas. This deal builds on their previous collaborations in Europe and marks the fifth renewable energy project the two companies have partnered on globally.

Google will source part of the output from the 350 MW facility, set to begin operations later this year. ENGIE, which developed the project, will also handle its construction and operation, located just north of Austin, Texas.

The agreement was made possible through LEAPโ„ข (LevelTen Energyโ€™s Accelerated Process), a framework co-developed by Google and LevelTen Energy to streamline the sourcing and execution of clean energy PPAs. This initiative supports Googleโ€™s ambitious goal to achieve 24/7 carbon-free energy across all its operations by 2030. During construction, the Chillingham project has employed over 300 skilled workers, primarily from the local area, and is expected to generate more than $72 million in tax revenues for the community, including around $53 million for local school districts. Once operational, Chillingham will be ENGIE’s largest solar project in the U.S. to date and will contribute to its portfolio of approximately 8 GW of renewable projects, including solar, wind, and battery storage, across North America.

โ€œWe are honored to continue to expand ENGIEโ€™s global relationship with Google, supporting their growth and delivery of their net-zero commitmentsโ€ said Dave Carroll, Chief Renewables Officer, ENGIE North America. โ€œWe are proud that ENGIEโ€™s proven track record in developing, building and operating renewable assets puts us at the forefront of the energy transition. Chillingham solar clearly demonstrates ENGIEโ€™s track record of consistently delivering quality renewables projects that meet the needs of customers such as Google โ€“ allowing us to collaborate together and meet their unique needs.โ€

โ€Weโ€™re pleased to further our collaboration with ENGIE with new carbon-free energy from its Chillingham plant that will supply our operations in Texas with clean power,โ€ said Amanda Peterson Corio, Global Head of Data Center Energy, Google. โ€œThis agreement is another example of how using our scalable procurement approach is transforming the way the industry sells and purchases power, and ultimately speeds up the development of carbon free electricity.โ€
