JA Solar Chosen As Key Supplier For World’s Biggest PV And Energy Storage Initiative

On January 16, 2025, during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), Masdar, the UAE’s leader in clean energy, revealed that JA Solar will be one of the main suppliers for a groundbreaking renewable energy project. This project is the world’s first 24/7 gigascale initiative, combining solar power with energy storage to provide continuous renewable energy.

Founded in 2006, Masdar has been a global leader in renewable energy, focusing on solar, wind, geothermal, energy storage, and green hydrogen technologies. The company has developed and invested in over 50GW of projects across 40+ countries, all contributing to its mission of achieving net-zero goals.

Located in Abu Dhabi, this massive project will have 5.2GW of solar capacity and a 19GWh battery storage system. It will be divided into two sites: a north site with 2.6GW and a south site with 2.6GW, plus 9.5GWh of storage at each. Once completed, the project will provide 1GW of reliable power every day, helping the UAE reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions. This project is a key step toward the UAE’s 2050 Net Zero Strategy and a major achievement in line with the commitments made at COP28.
