PLN, University of Dundee, and SKK Migas Collaborate on Energy Transition Public Lecture

PT PLN (Persero) has partnered with the University of Dundee, Scotland, and SKK Migas to host a public lecture focused on accelerating Indonesiaโ€™s energy transition. Held at PLNโ€™s Head Office ,the event, themed โ€œEnergy Transition Toward A Low-Carbon Economy,โ€ brought together government officials, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), private companies, academics, and international partners to discuss strategies for achieving Indonesiaโ€™s Net Zero Emissions target by 2060.

Deputy Minister of Finance, Suahasil Nazara, highlighted the energy transition as a crucial opportunity for Indonesia to drive economic growth, improve public welfare, and reduce inequality. He emphasized the global challenges of deglobalization, digitalization, climate change, demographics, and global debt, stressing the need for Indonesia to align its economic roadmap with these shifting dynamics.

โ€œAchieving Net Zero Emissions is not easy, but Indonesia must fulfill its commitments. Through the Energy Transition Mechanism (ETM), the country aims to address key challenges in the transition process,โ€ Suahasil stated.

Director General of Electricity Jisman P Hutajulu, representing the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, reinforced the importance of transitioning to renewable energy for economic stability and shielding the country from volatile energy prices. He emphasized that the transition requires collaboration beyond the government, involving private sector stakeholders and academia.

โ€œThrough this forum, we hope to develop concrete solutions for energy transition, backed by strong cooperation among all stakeholders,โ€ Jisman remarked.

Strengthening UK-Indonesia Energy Partnerships

The event also marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the United Kingdom. British Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jermey, highlighted the growing partnership between the two nations in renewable energy.

โ€œIndonesia and the UK are working together on energy transition, aligning with Indonesiaโ€™s national commitments. During the recent meeting between President Prabowo and our Prime Minister, energy and environmental cooperation were key topics in fostering new partnerships,โ€ Jermey said.

PLNโ€™s Commitment to Renewable Energy

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo reaffirmed the companyโ€™s commitment to addressing climate change through a shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy. He stated that the upcoming Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) will be dominated by clean energy sources.

โ€œThis forum reinforces our collective mission for sustainability. It unites global stakeholders and strengthens our resolve to overcome challenges in the energy transition,โ€ Darmawan noted.

Darmawan also emphasized PLNโ€™s role in promoting energy self-sufficiency, ensuring the availability of affordable, clean energy, and enhancing national energy security.

โ€œOur goal is to attract more green investment, accelerate economic growth, create jobs, eradicate poverty, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, all while ensuring prosperity for our people,โ€ he added.

MoU Signed for Energy Transition Collaboration

During the event, SKK Migas and the University of Dundee signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to align Indonesiaโ€™s energy transition strategies with the evolving needs of the electricity sector.

As a key player in Indonesiaโ€™s energy ecosystem, PLN continues to facilitate partnerships that advance the countryโ€™s transition to a low-carbon economy while ensuring sustainable energy solutions for the future.
