TotalEnergies ENEOS has successfully commissioned a 1.9 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar rooftop photovoltaic (PV) system in partnership with SteelAsia Manufacturing Corporation, the Philippinesโ€™ leading steel company and one of the largest global rebar producers.

The PV system, installed with over 3,200 solar modules at SteelAsiaโ€™s Meycauayan, Bulacan facility, generates approximately 2,700 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable energy annually. This project provides significant cost savings for SteelAsia while reducing its carbon footprint by around 2,300 tons of CO2 emissions per yearโ€”equivalent to planting more than 34,500 trees.

Under a 10-year solar agreement, TotalEnergies ENEOS fully funded, installed, and will operate the solar system throughout the duration of the contract. SteelAsia will purchase the electricity produced over the next decade with no upfront costs.

This initiative is part of SteelAsiaโ€™s broader decarbonization strategy to incorporate renewable energy into its operations. The companyโ€™s Calaca green steel manufacturing plant and Compostela, Cebu rolling mill are already powered by geothermal energy.

โ€œSustainability is at the core of our vision for the future of steel manufacturingโ€, saidย Andre Sy, President of SteelAsia. โ€œThis solar project with TotalEnergies ENEOS is a crucial step in reducing our environmental impact while ensuring energy sufficiency across our operations.โ€

โ€œThe steel industry is energy intensive, and we understand the need for improved energy efficiency. We are delighted to be SteelAsiaโ€™s trusted partner for their first solar rooftop project, supporting them on their decarbonization journey and contributing to the development of sustainable steel industry in the Philippines,โ€ saidย Ingrid Jaumain, Zone Director of TotalEnergies ENEOS Renewables Philippines Project Corp.
