In a groundbreaking move toward advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the renewable energy sector, Apraava Energy has introduced an all-women team to manage morning shift operations at its 100 MW Veltoor solar plant in Telangana. This initiative, one of the first of its kind in India, reflects the company’s commitment to gender inclusivity and aims to encourage more women engineers to take on key operational roles in the clean energy sector.
The team, comprising four engineers—Dudimetla Tejaswini, Anusha Rudramuni, Indhusree Rudramuni, and Koretha Suguna—joined the plant last year through Apraava Energy’s partner, Param Renewable Energy. They specialize in electrical and electronics engineering and have played a crucial role in enhancing the plant’s performance. Additionally, Jhaswini Kumari P and Mani Deepthi Meda, two women engineers from Apraava, oversee broader plant operations.
Highlighting the significance of this milestone, Deepa Sebastian, Senior Vice President – HR at Apraava Energy, stated, “Our all-women team symbolizes Apraava’s commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion, respect, and equal opportunity. On this International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our resolve to champion DEI and accelerate actions to empower women to thrive, excel, and lead in the renewable energy sector.”
To support the initiative, Apraava Energy offers a comprehensive development program, including mentorship and hands-on technical training, enabling women professionals to gain expertise in plant operations, maintenance, and leadership roles.
For many of the engineers, this experience marks a significant step in their careers. Indhusree Rudramuni, who works in tracker restoration, shared, “This is my first time working at a solar plant, and the hands-on experience has been truly enriching. It is a great opportunity to acquire new skills and a significant step towards my career growth in the rapidly advancing renewable energy sector.”
As India moves toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy future, Apraava’s initiative sets a precedent for greater gender inclusion in the industry. By normalizing women’s participation in traditionally male-dominated roles, the company hopes to inspire more women to pursue careers in clean energy and engineering, strengthening the sector with diverse talent and leadership.
