Solar Landscape, a leading commercial rooftop solar developer in the U.S., has energized 14 new community solar projects across Maryland, contributing a total of 6.6 megawatts (MW) of clean energy to the state’s power grid. These installations mark the beginning of the company’s ambitious plan to develop 57 community solar projects across Maryland, making it the largest initiative of its kind undertaken by a single company in the state.

Once fully operational, these projects will collectively generate 55 MW of solar power, benefiting approximately 5,870 households. With nearly 50 percent of the state’s recent market share in rooftop community solar, Solar Landscape has established itself as Maryland’s leader in the sector.

Shaun Keegan, Solar Landscape CEO and Co-Founder, said in a statement, “Community solar projects like the ones we’ve energized create jobs, reduce energy costs and help Maryland meet its energy needs. Putting large solar installations on commercial rooftops is a smart, shovel-ready energy solution that also pays dividends to building owners.”

The newly energized projects are spread across multiple locations, with five sites in Baltimore, two in Gaithersburg, and additional installations in Bel Air, Bethesda, Burtonsville, Dundalk, Owings Mills, Westminster, and Woodlawn. These projects were connected to Maryland’s power grid through partnerships with Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) and Pepco.

By utilizing commercial rooftops, Solar Landscape’s projects provide a new source of clean energy without consuming valuable agricultural land or open space. Additionally, rooftop solar installations offer a faster development timeline, typically taking between 12 to 24 months to complete, thanks to streamlined interconnection processes and modular construction techniques.

Beyond expanding solar energy access, Solar Landscape is committed to workforce development through its partnership with STEP-UP, a nationally recognized nonprofit. In collaboration with Woodland Job Corps in Laurel, Maryland, the organization hosted a three-day hands-on solar installation training program in 2023 and plans to conduct another session in the state later this year. This initiative helps train individuals for careers in the growing solar energy industry, reinforcing Solar Landscape’s commitment to both sustainability and job creation.

In 2024, Solar Landscape leased 40 million square feet of commercial rooftop space across the U.S. to support its growing solar energy portfolio. This large-scale initiative requires more than $1 billion in project financing and will serve as the foundation for 500 MW of solar capacity, enough to power approximately 80,000 homes.

The company has also built strong relationships with over 80 partners who collectively own more than 2 billion square feet of commercial real estate nationwide. Through its Maryland projects, Solar Landscape will enable thousands of households to benefit from savings on their electricity bills through solar energy credits, further advancing the state’s transition toward clean, renewable power.
