Altus Power, a leading provider of commercial-scale clean electric power, has announced the acquisition of ten development-stage community solar projects in Maryland, totaling 58.4 megawatts. The projects were acquired from Prospect14, a prominent distributed solar energy development firm. As part of the acquisition, Altus Power and Prospect14 have entered into a development services agreement under which Prospect14 will complete the development of the projects.
Once operational, the solar installations will participate in the Maryland Community Solar program, bringing the benefits of clean electric power to approximately 8,000 customers. Importantly, the program will include a specific allocation for low-to-moderate income households, reinforcing Altus Powerโs commitment to making renewable energy more accessible to underserved communities.
Greg Roer, Managing Director, Altus Power, said in a statement, โAltus Power has built a reputation for its ability to partner with solar developers to facilitate the deployment of distributed generation solar projects at every stage of the development process, and this transaction is an example of this trusted partnership at the early stages of development. Prospect14 is a premier developer, and weโre excited to partner with them to expand the opportunities for community solar in Maryland through the development of a portfolio of renewable energy projects that will be owned and operated by Altus Power.โ
Carl Jackson, Partner, Prospect14, stated, โProspect14 is proud to work alongside Altus Power to accelerate the deployment of community solar in Marylandโs vibrant and expanding solar market. We share a deep commitment to enabling access to renewable energy for all Maryland households, and this portfolio demonstrates whatโs possible when innovative development meets long-term ownership and operational excellence.โ
Marylandโs energy market is currently experiencing significant pressure, driven by the rising demand for electricity from data centers and the increasing adoption of electric vehicles. This surge in demand is straining the existing power infrastructure and outpacing the buildout of new transmission capacity. Against this backdrop, the partnership between Altus Power and Prospect14 provides a critical solution by delivering clean, renewable power directly where it is most needed.
The acquisition highlights Altus Powerโs continued efforts to expand the reach of renewable energy and provide equitable access to its benefits. By growing its portfolio of community solar projects, Altus Power enables renters, multifamily residents, homeowners, and small businessesโparticularly those unable to install rooftop solar panelsโto participate in the transition to clean energy and realize long-term savings.
