French renewable energy producer and solar panel manufacturer Reden Solar has officially inaugurated its first photovoltaic power plant in Codroipo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, marking a major milestone in the company’s Italian operations.

The 23.5 MWp ground-mounted solar plant is located on the former Mangiarotti powder magazine, a long-abandoned munitions production site that underwent full rehabilitation to transform into a green energy hub. The project was developed by Reden Solar Italy, the Agen-based groupโ€™s Italian subsidiary, which has been operating in the country since late 2021 and now manages a portfolio of 100 MW in operation across the peninsula.

The Codroipo installation is expected to generate enough electricity to power 11,000 homes annually, while offsetting approximately 22,000 tonnes of COโ‚‚ emissionsโ€”equivalent to removing over 10,000 combustion-engine vehicles from the road each year.

In addition to its energy contribution, the project emphasizes environmental preservation and cultural heritage. Measures taken include the planting of tall and medium-sized shrubs to reduce visual impact, as well as the restoration of historical features such as the entrance gate, fountain, and a statue of Saint Barbara, patron saint of artillerymen. The site also features educational panels to commemorate its historical significance.
