Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính on Wednesday called on Swedish textile recycling group SYRE to invest in developing a green and sustainable textile industry in Việt Nam, during a meeting with SYRE Chair Susanna Campbell and Swedish Ambassador to Việt Nam Johan Ndisi.
Welcoming the delegation’s visit to explore investment opportunities, PM Chính encouraged SYRE to utilise Việt Nam’s surplus textile materials and waste to produce sustainable products. He emphasized the need for clean energy and environmentally friendly inputs in the production process.
Highlighting Bình Định province as SYRE’s proposed investment location, the Prime Minister praised the choice as “strategic,” citing its favourable business climate and robust infrastructure, including an international airport and deep-water seaport.
Chính reaffirmed Việt Nam’s commitment to rapid, yet sustainable development, with an economic growth target of 8% for this year and aspirations for double-digit growth in the coming years. He underscored the role of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, adding that the country is seeking international collaboration in capital, governance, human resources, and technology to support this trajectory.
In response, SYRE Chair Susanna Campbell confirmed the company’s ambition to expand internationally with a focus on green transition, expressing SYRE’s intention to partner with Việt Nam in transforming the country into a global hub for circular textile production.
“Our fully circular manufacturing model produces textile-grade outputs from recycled materials. We view Việt Nam as a strategic location, especially as the momentum for green transition accelerates,” said Campbell.
According to plans, SYRE will invest US$1 billion to establish a polyester fabric recycling complex in Bình Định, aiming to make Việt Nam the world’s first high-tech circular textile centre that aligns with EU and US sustainability standards and supports Việt Nam’s net-zero emissions target.
PM Chính also reaffirmed Việt Nam’s leadership in renewable energy within Southeast Asia and its proactive implementation of COP26–28 commitments, including circular economy practices and green textile production. He noted that Việt Nam remains open to high-tech foreign investment and pledged full government support for SYRE’s operations.
Ambassador Johan Ndisi welcomed the partnership, reiterating Sweden’s commitment to supporting Việt Nam’s green transition. He noted that Swedish enterprises are increasingly viewing Việt Nam as a long-term investment destination, and expressed optimism about advancing bilateral ties to a higher strategic level.
