Trinasolar has claimed the top position in the Global Perovskite Solar Cell Invention Patent Ranking, published by intellectual property analytics firm IPRdaily, with an impressive 481 patent applications in the perovskite solar cell field. The company also secured the second spot globally in both the solar cell and module invention patent rankings and the TOPCon solar cell patent ranking, further reinforcing its technological leadership in the solar industry.
IPRdaily, a leading media agency specializing in intellectual property and integrated information services, released three key rankings:
- Top 50 Global Solar Cell and Module Invention Patent Ranking
- Top 30 Global Perovskite Solar Cell Invention Patent Ranking
- Top 30 Global TOPCon Solar Cell Invention Patent Ranking
These rankings are based on keyword and classification criteria relevant to each technology category, analyzing global invention patents filed and published in the 10 years preceding March 31. Patents with the same application number were counted as one.
Perovskite solar cells, regarded as a next-generation photovoltaic (PV) technology, offer notable advantages over traditional silicon-based cells, including higher efficiency and the potential for lower production costs due to low-temperature solution processing methods.
Trinasolar began strategically investing in perovskite technology in 2014, and now leads the world in patent applications related to this breakthrough PV innovation. The company has also established a State Key Laboratory of PV Science and Technology and co-founded an Innovation Center for Next-Generation PV Technologies and Equipment Manufacturing alongside more than 10 industry partners.
According to IPRdailyโs analysis, Trinasolar is making rapid advancements in crystalline silicon tandem solar cells. In 2025, the company has already broken world records in both cell efficiency and module power in the perovskite-silicon tandem segment, underscoring its role as a frontrunner in shaping the future of solar energy.
โTOPCon technology not only dominates the current market but is also well-suited as the bottom cell in tandem architectures,โ IPRdaily said. โThe combination of TOPCon and perovskite in tandem solar cells continues to show remarkable vitality, offering significant potential for further efficiency improvements and expanded application settings. Over the past three years, 82.78% of Trinasolarโs TOPCon patent applications have been filed, marking one of the highest growth rates in the industry.โ
Gao Jifan, Chairman and CEO of Trinasolar, said, โWe are very honored to receive the top-ranking release by IPRdaily. Trinasolar has always regarded technological innovation as its primary driving force. We will continue to advance the coordinated development of technology R&D, intellectual property, and industry standards, accelerating the research, development, and commercialization of perovskite-silicon tandem technologies, and contributing to the global energy transition.โ
