The Scottish Africa Business Association (SABA) has officially announced an upcoming high-level diplomatic visit by His Excellency Hakim Hajoui, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Kingdom. The visit, set to take place in Scotland, is aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between Scotland and Morocco, particularly in the fields of renewable energy, agriculture, and education.
During the visit, Ambassador Hajoui will engage with government officials, industry leaders, and academic institutions across Scotland. The agenda includes strategic roundtables, private meetings, and site visits to key Scottish businesses with an interest in expanding operations and collaborations in Morocco โ a nation recognised as one of Africaโs fastest-growing economies.
Morocco has emerged as a continental frontrunner in renewable energy, targeting over 50% of its electricity production from renewable sources by 2030. The North African country has been actively investing in solar, wind, green hydrogen, and energy infrastructure, creating substantial opportunities for Scottish firms with expertise in offshore wind, grid innovation, and clean energy technologies.
In addition, Moroccoโs ongoing transformation of its agriculture sector โ focusing on sustainable practices, water efficiency, and agri-tech innovation โ presents further avenues for Scottish agricultural technology providers and research institutions.
Education and workforce development are also set to be key pillars of the visit. Recognising the vital role of human capital in driving industrial growth, both nations are expected to explore partnerships between Scottish universities and Moroccan institutions to support skills development and knowledge transfer.
Seona Shand, Chief Operating Officer of SABA, expressed optimism about the visit’s potential outcomes:
โWe are thrilled to welcome the Ambassador of Morocco to Scotland. This visit comes at a pivotal time as Morocco accelerates its ambitious green energy transition and advances major agricultural reforms. Scotlandโs world-class expertise in renewable energy, offshore wind, green hydrogen and agricultural innovation is a perfect match for Moroccoโs ambitions. We see enormous opportunities for Scottish businesses to partner with Moroccan counterparts, share know-how and co-create solutions that will benefit both nations.โ
The visit is expected to catalyse new trade agreements, joint ventures, and long-term knowledge-sharing initiatives between the two nations.
