Tata Power has announced the appointment of Sanjay Banga as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), effective June 1, 2025.
Banga, a veteran in the power sector with nearly three decades of experience, currently leads Tata Powerโs Transmission & Distribution (T&D) vertical. His portfolio includes managing operations across key regions such as Mumbai, Delhi, Odisha, Ajmer, and transmission networks. He will succeed Deepesh Nanda, who has tendered his resignation from the position of President โ Renewables, citing personal reasons. Nanda will step down at the close of business on May 31, 2025.
Prior to his current role, Banga served as the CEO of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd. (Tata Power-DDL), a public-private partnership between Tata Power and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. He is known for his strategic leadership in operational technologies, project execution, regulatory compliance, and business process transformation.
His appointment comes at a pivotal time for Tata Powerโs renewable energy arm, as the company accelerates its green energy transition in alignment with Indiaโs sustainability goals.
