SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA) has announced plans to begin local final assembly of its Medium Voltage Power Station (MVPS) in the United States, enhancing domestic supply chain capabilities and advancing clean energy goals across North America.
The MVPS, a compact and fully integrated system that combines a central or battery inverter with a transformer and medium-voltage switchgear, is a key solution for utility-scale solar and storage projects. By initiating U.S.-based integration, SMA aims to shorten project lead times, reduce shipping complexities, and potentially support compliance with domestic content requirements under the Inflation Reduction Act.
“This is a critical step forward for SMA America and for our customers,” said Jay Arghestani, managing director of large-scale sales, technology and marketing for SMA America. “Domestic integration helps shorten project timelines, reduce shipping complexities and may contribute to domestic content strategies under the Inflation Reduction Act, depending on how customers structure their solutions.”
Florian Bechtold, executive vice president of large scale for SMA Solar Technology AG, emphasized the strategic importance of the U.S. market, stating: “The U.S. is one of our most important markets and will remain one of the fastest-evolving clean energy markets in the world. This market plays a vital role in driving global decarbonization, and SMA is proud to invest in American-based solutions that support our partners and customers nationwide.”
The first U.S.-integrated MVPS is expected to be deployed in the first quarter of 2026, with a phased rollout planned for Q2. Concurrently, SMA will gradually increase the share of locally sourced and assembled components to further align with federal subsidy programs and enhance logistical efficiency.
The MVPS has emerged as a transformative product in the utility-scale solar space, offering a scalable, reliable, and factory-tested solution designed to simplify project execution and optimize energy yield. Its modular configuration and robust performance enable streamlined logistics, reduced on-site labor, and enhanced grid support—making it ideal for large deployments across varied operating conditions.
